1. festival Braids

In the age of Burning Man and Coachella, music festivals are quickly becoming the most popular way to spend your time (and money).
As the festival industry grows stronger, so do the elaborate hairstyles and fun ways to express yourself. Vibrant hairpieces, braid rings, jewels, and glitter are all used to create crazy unique hair ideas.

Festival braids are a staple of the music festival hair trends. This look is created by braiding vibrantly-colored hair and ribbon into two boxer braids down the back of your head.
Since this hairstyle is synonymous with partying, I figured it’s a perfect hairstyle idea for New Year’s Eve!
Best of all, you can easily create this look on yourself with a smidge of practice. Nettan Kallin has a fabulous tutorial to show you how easy it really is.
Oh, and don’t forget to pick up some feed-in hair. You can pretty much get whatever color combo you want on Amazon for dirt-cheap!
2. Jazzed-Up High Pony

High ponytails NEVER go out of style. This timeless, classic look can be easily recreated at home in a short amount of time. This is a perfect hairstyle for someone who has to work late on NYE.
Right now, oversized hair clips, hair rings, and statement hair pins are all crazy popular. Use a few of these hot accessories to jazz up any ponytail with minimal effort.

Noel Labb has a pretty sweet tutorial that shows you how to create a textured pony in a matter of minutes. You should really check it out!
3. hollywood Waves

There is not a single thing in the world that says, “glam,” more than retro Hollywood waves!
It’s a look that has stood strong in Hollywood for decades on end. In fact, it was glamorous in the Marilyn Monroe era and can still be seen on the red carpet today.
This classic New Year’s Eve hairstyle is the perfect way to look elegant, while partying like it’s 1999. Pair the look with some blingy hair pins for extra points!

Let Barbara De Medeiros show you how it’s done.
4. Bubble ponytail

Bubble ponytails are one of the newer ways to spice up an ordinary ponytail. It’s fun. It’s cute. I love how creative it is.
As complicated as this hairstyle may seem, it’s actually super easy to do! Alex Gaboury has a really easy-to-follow tutorial on her channel!

💡TIP: Pair the look with classy bows/ribbons, or hair scarves for extra trend points.
5. tousled Low Bun

I pretty much ALWAYS love the idea of a tousled low-bun, because there’s no set standard on how it should look. You could just twist your hair up, pin it in place, and mess it up… and it will seem like you spent hours at the salon.

I love Kate’s (from The Small Things Blog) “Easier Than It Looks Updo” for those times when you’re in a pinch!
6. Chunky Side Fishtail

A side fishtail is fun and elegant, and makes a perfect New Year’s Eve hairstyle!

Although it could take a bit of practice to perfect, it’s the perfect way to keep your hair out of your face while partying. Missy Sue really has a way of simplifying things, which is why I’ve crowned her the queen of hair tutorials!
I’m also a huge fan of how she incorporates trendy pearl hair clips into her braids! 😍😍😍
7. Blinged-Out Pins & Clips
Speaking of trendy hair pins and clips….

I’m just sayin’… you should probably incorporate them into any other NYE hairstyle this year! They’re the one hair trend that really stood out this year, and they aren’t going away any time soon…

The best part about this trend is that these pins are dirt-cheap and you can order them on Amazon right now!

8. Wavy with straight ends

Another super trendy hairstyle that’s been all over Instagram lately is the beach wave look with straightened ends. It looks amazing on shorter, blunt bobs and lobs, but can be done on any type of hair!

Really, the trick is just to curl your hair like you usually would but leave the ends out. Using a curling wand makes this hairstyle effortless to do. Just ask Maria Bethany.
9. Crown Braids

2023 is your year girl. Welcome it into your life with a crown on your head!

Crown braids are super trendy and give you more of a casual, boho-chic New Year’s Eve hairstyle. This look isn’t terribly hard to do, and it really turns up the class a bit!
Braided crowns can be incorporated into half-up hairstyles, or worn with your hair completely up. They can be loose and romantic, or on the more formal side. The choice is yours.
Either way, laineymariebeauty can show you how easy it is to pull off this look!
10. Pull-Through Braid

Pull-through braids are one of my favorite modern-day hairstyles because they look so much more intricate than they really are. If you can section your hair off into ponytails, you can do a pull-through braid on yourself.
For a New Year’s Eve hairstyle idea, you could either wear a straight-down-the-middle pull-through braid (whew), or you can incorporate it into any other hairstyle. The possibilities are endless!

Intimidated? Don’t be. Kayley Melissa has a killer beginner’s tutorial for you to follow!
11. Half-Up Topknot

A half-up topknot is one of my absolute favorite looks this year, so why not rock it as a New Year’s Eve hairstyle? It can be super sleek and glam like the picture above, or cute and casual like the picture below.

Annies Forget Me Knots has a cute way of incorporating a mohawk braid into this fabulous hairstyle!
12. Glitter bomb

What’s New Year’s Eve without glitter?!?
Do you want to hear a funny story real quick? One year, I had a date on New Year’s Eve.
Naturally, I smothered my hair, body, and face with glitter because, hey… glitter is amazing. AND IT WAS NEW YEAR’S EVE!
The guy picked me up in his new car that he was really protective of. Whoops. In fact, he wouldn’t even let his best friend eat a powdered donut in his car.
He never said anything to me about it, but years later, I found out that all that glitter made him cringe. He told me that he vacuumed glitter out of his car for months after that.
But luckily, he said that the date with me was worth the headache.
So the moral of the story is… you should always drench yourself in glitter, no matter what.

You can pretty much use any type of glitter, although chunky glitter is pretty popular. You can always hold in in place with hairspray, or you can even buy some glitter designed to be put in hair.
Just remember to be excessive about it.

13. Flipped-Out Ponytail

This classic-style flipped out ponytail is popping up everywhere lately! If multiple Kardashians are wearing it, you know it’s a good choice for a New Year’s Eve hairstyle!

To create this look, just wear your hair in a sleek high ponytail and flip out the ends with a curling iron or flat iron. Easy Peasy.

If you’re an edgier chick, you should really consider a fun faux-hawk hairstyle this year! There are many different ways to create this look, and they are all oh-so-fun.

15. Braided Ribbons

As you’re already aware, hair accessories of all kinds are super hot right now. On the same token, braids have been going strong for several years.
What better way to bring in the new year than with two of the most popular hair trends merged together as one?!

Ribbons, pearls, chains, and any other type of stringy accessory can be easily incorporated into your favorite braided hairstyle. This is one of the hottest New Year’s Eve hairstyles on the menu this year!

Briana’s Braids has an amazing tutorial, but be warned… it could take a bit of practice to perfect this style!
General FAQ

My favorite NYE hairstyle for short hair would have to be either a half-up topknot or wavy hair with straight ends. Either of these hairstyles can easily be created on shorter hair.
If you’re going for an edgy look, I love the idea of a trendy fauxhawk hairstyle on long hair. If you’re more into glam, retro Hollywood waves are a great New Year’s Eve hairstyle for long hair!
I think a crazy, curly fauxhawk or sleek ponytail embellished with jumbo hair pins would be perfect for curly hair this year!
Final Thoughts

New Year’s is the perfect time to start fresh and transform your life into whatever you want.
With the perfect hairstyle, a sprinkle of glitter, and a good time, you can welcome the new year into your life with new, positive energy. Don’t fight the good vibes.
This is your year, sis! Own it.
