So, this year was my first time hosting Thanksgiving at my new house and all of my family was there. Even though I had a million things on my mind, I remembered that at 5 o’clock, I needed to log on to Ulta.com and buy some cheap makeup. Luckily for me, I was able to get right to the website and managed to add what I wanted to my cart. Unluckily for me, I got sidetracked before fully checking out and by the time I came back, everything was sold out. Even though my turkey just finished at 6 o’clock, I decided to endure the 5-minute drive to pick up some $10 Mascaras from Ulta. Fortunately, it was really quick and easy and I was back home within a few minutes.
The next morning, as I was laying in bed, I realized that I only purchased three out of four of the $10 Black Friday mascaras that we’re on sale. I immediately grabbed my baby daughter, hopped in my car, and drove back to Ulta. To my surprise, they had one more unit of the Buxom mascara and I snatched it up. Now that I have them all, I figured it would be fun for me to compare and contrast them and let you all know which one is my favorite!
Before I talk about the main event (the $10 mascaras from Ulta), I want to mention that I purchased a couple of other things too. I grabbed Urban Decay’s nocturnal shadow box for $14.50 and I really, really like it. I guess they sold out pretty quick, so I really lucked out. It’s one of the best lines of shimmer eyeshadows I’ve found so far. Anyways, for all intents and purposes, I used this palette with each of the different mascaras. Additionally, I used the Ecotools Highlight and Glow brush set that I also bought for $10 on Black Friday.
1. Urban Decay Big Fatty
For the first day, I used Urban Decay’s Big Fatty mascara. I generally love everything I’ve ever tried by Urban Decay, so it was no surprise that this mascara is amazing. “Big Fatty” is a perfect name for it because it pumps your lashes full of volume. The only gripe I have about this product is that it might be a bit thick for the bottom lashes; it made them a tad clumpy when I applied it.
2. IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes
I must say that I was slightly disappointed in this product. I mean, it’s alright, but I really like IT Cosmetics on average, and this mascara is just okay. It didn’t really do anything amazing for either the volume or length. I feel like I should give it the benefit of the doubt, and maybe give it another try with a few more coats…but for now, I’m not impressed.
3. Buxom Lash
This was the first Buxom product I’ve ever tried and I really, really liked it. It did an amazing job at adding length to my lashes and didn’t take too many coats. The only downside is that it didn’t add a whole lot of volume. I felt like it did the best job at separating my lashes. It made them look so perfect that I feel like they could pass as thinner fake lashes with this mascara.
4. Tarte Maneater
Instead of buying the full-sized Tarte Maneater mascara for $10, I bought the oversized eyeliner/mascara duo sampler. I absolutely loved the eyeliner. It went on really smooth and was really easy to apply. I’ve tried a million different eyeliners, and this one is definitely one of my favorites.
I equally loved the mascara. At first glance, I didn’t see anything special about it; it was not really doing anything. However, after a couple of coats, this mascara added both volume and length and made my eyelashes look amazing. The only complaint I have is that it started to flake off at the end of the day, which could have been from the multiple coats. It did last a good 12-13 hours before flaking though, so I think I could live with it.
The Winner:
I’m gonna go with the Tarte Maneater as my favorite since it added volume and length, which are both attributes I desperately need. It was a tough call because I did really like the Buxom and Urban Decay, but both of them added either length or volume. The reality of the situation is that I usually use more than one type of mascara at a time, so I can probably combine them to get volume and length. The IT Cosmetics was my least favorite, but since my friend talked so highly of it, I will give it another try. Hopefully, it will change my mind.
Bonus Round:
Since November is my birthday month, Ulta gifted me a free sample of Lancome Monsieur Big mascara. Additionally, my friend recently gave me an extra sample of the Urban Decay Troublemaker. Here’s what I thought…
UD Troublemaker vs. Lancôme Monsieur Big
I was not super impressed with the Urban Decay Troublemaker. It didn’t seem like it did much for either my length or volume. It was okay, but there was nothing special about it.
However, the Monsieur Big by Lancôme was pretty amazing It added volume and length without adding too many coats. We have a winner!
