Beauty Hack #1: Nix Blackheads with Epsom Salt

Epsom salt in a wooden container with spoon.

I don’t know about you, but I love myself a hot Epsom salt bath after a long day at work. This magnificent compound reduces stress, draws out toxins, and even reduces muscle soreness.

But did you know that it can also clean out your pores?

No, seriously… try it!

Like bathing in it, when used on the skin, it reduces inflammation, exfoliates the skin, and draws the gunk out of your pores. It’s easily one of the best beauty hacks for your face.

Don’t believe me? Check out these reviews from Acne.org.

To do this at home:

  1. Mix 2-3 tbsp of Epsom salt with warm water.
  2. Once the salt dissolves, apply it to your skin with a cotton pad.
  3. Let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

Follow up with a moisturizer for soft, beautiful new skin.

Beauty Hack #2: Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse

Apple cider vinegar in a jar.

This beauty hack sounds a bit crazy, but you’re just gonna have to trust me…

For extreme shine, do a weekly apple cider vinegar rinse on your hair.

Although your shower will smell like Easter eggs, and vinegar isn’t kind on the eyes (which I may possibly know from experience…)

BUT it will deliver extraordinarily soft and shiny hair.

This happens because the acidity in vinegar neutralizes the pH balance of your hair, closing the cuticle and smoothing down the hair shaft.

To do this at home, simply pour apple cider vinegar on your hair (remember to tilt your head back.) Work it through your hair with your fingers, and rinse after a few minutes.

You’re welcome.

Beauty Hack #3: Gelatin Face Mask

Rainbow gelatin in plastic cups.

Did you know that gelatin is actually a natural form of collagen that rejuvenates your skin? Pretty interesting, huh?

In fact, you can make a pretty sweet DIY peel-off face mask with some gelatin and a few other ingredients. This mask will infuse your skin with nutrients to help stimulate collagen growth, improve elasticity and even heal damaged skin.

At the same time, the mask will bind to and help extract impurities as you peel it off. This exfoliates your skin and removes blackheads, dirt, toxins, and all the other gunk… leaving you with soft, new skin.

To make your own peel-off face mask, mix 1 tbsp of unflavored, uncolored gelatin with 1 tbsp of honey and 2 tbsp of whole milk in a microwave-safe bowl. Mix well and then microwave for 10-15 seconds.

Test the product with your fingers before applying it. If it’s not warm, pop it back in the microwave for 5-10 seconds; if it’s too hot, let it cool for a few.

When the temperature is just right, immediately apply it to your face with your fingers. Once it has completely dried, peel it off to reveal the beautiful new skin underneath.

Beauty Hack #4: Dry Nail Polish with Cooking Spray

Colorful nail polish.

Doesn’t it seem like no matter how long you let your nails dry, you’ll always manage to smudge one of them at some point? STORY OF MY LIFE.

The good news is that you can set your nail polish with any old cooking spray you have in the cabinet… and make them dry faster!

According to OPI.com, “This essentially works by soaking into the nail and thinning out the polish. Once you see it starting to bead at the top of your nail, you can gently wipe it off with a tissue and find strong, dry polish underneath.”

Beauty Hack #5: DIY Lip Scrub

Woman with DIY sugar scrub on lips.

Ugh. Dry, flaky lips are the worst.

But did you know that you can make a super easy lip scrub with Vaseline and sugar?

Seriously… that’s all you have to do.

Just know that the different types of sugars work in different ways. For example, white granulated sugar is more abrasive, while brown sugar is easier on the skin.

To make the scrub, simply mix a pea-sized dollop of Vaseline with a pinch of sugar. Apply to your lips and massage in circular motions. Don’t forget to rinse when you’re done.

💡TIP: Follow up with the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask to keep your lips from drying out again!

Beauty Hack #6: Get Longer Lashes With Baby Powder

Blonde woman applying mascara in the mirror.

Long eyelashes are a non-negotiable for me… even if I don’t wear any other makeup.

Fake eyelashes or extensions are fun, but they also come with their own set of drawbacks.

Want to hear a nifty trick to make your natural lashes extra long? Baby powder. No, really…

Simply apply one coat of mascara, then sweep some baby powder across your lashes with a makeup brush. Follow up with a second coat of mascara to adhere to the powder.

Congratulations! Your lashes are now super full and longer!

Beauty Hack #7: Use Baby Powder to Refresh Hair in Between Washes

Happy woman with green sweater, fluffing up her red hair.

Speaking of baby powder…

Did you know that you can also use it in place of dry shampoo between washes? It soaks up the oil, refreshes your hair, and leaves it looking full and voluminous.

Just shake some baby powder on the root area and work it around with your fingers. For best results, let it sit for a few minutes. When you’re ready, simply brush it through the rest of your hair.

💡TIP: Look for a talc-free baby powder if you plan on using this method regularly (talc may contain trace amounts of asbestos, which is a known carcinogen).

Beauty Hack #8: Slugging

Woman with jar of face moisturizer.

Slugging is one of my favorite newer TikTok beauty trends. I just learned about it a few months ago, and let’s just say that I’m hooked.

So this is what you do:

After washing and toning your face at night, apply your serums, creams, etc., as you usually do. When you’re done, apply a thin layer of Vaseline (or Aquaphor) to your skin.

It sounds kinda crazy, but it’s actually pretty awesome… and even said to help with certain types of acne.

This method works because the barrier layer locks in moisture and skincare products, helping your skin soak up all those yummy nutrients.

When you wash your face in the morning, your skin will be extra soft and rejuvenated.

Beauty Hack #9: Blot Oily Skin With Coffee Filters

Coffee filter with ground coffee inside.

You know those expensive oil blotting sheets that help remove excess shine from your skin?

Well, coffee filters do the same thing.

They’re made from similar materials and don’t have the added fragrance, chemicals, etc., that you might find in the blotting sheets.

Next time you’re in a pinch, just cut up a coffee filter and blot the oily parts of your face as you normally would.

Your wallet will thank you.

Beauty Hack #10: Conceal Pimples With Visine

Woman squeezing a pimple on her cheek.

While Visine doesn’t help inflammation and won’t make the pimple any smaller, it will remove the redness and make it less visible.

To do this one, simply apply a few drops of Visine to a Q-Tip and then touch it to the pimple for a few minutes.

Voila! Now your pimple is much less noticeable.
