Do you have medium length hair? 🙋 Well, if you said, “yes,” then you’re in the right place. Well, medium length hairstyles have been the norm for the past couple of years and women seem to be chopping off their locks for whatever reason. I, personally, love that you can still wear medium length hair in a ponytail, and you have some ability to style it, but it isn’t overly long. Since it’s so popular, I figured it could be fun to showcase some of my favorite medium length hairstyles of 2018 along with some excellent tutorials on how to do them. What do you say?
The Hottest Medium-Length Hairstyles of 2018:
1. The Wavy Lob
The wavy lob is easily one of the best medium length hairstyles of all time, meaning its DEFINITELY one of the hottest medium length hairstyles of 2018…especially when paired with balayage hair color. It’s pretty low-maintenance but does require some ironwork (unless you’ve been blessed with natural waves). Lucky for you, Steph Willis can show you how easily you can wave your hair with a flat iron.
2. Space Buns
Space buns have been a fun, quirky trend for the past year or so. You can wear them on pretty much any length of hair, but they’re extra cute when incorporated into medium length hairstyles.
3. Half-Up Mohawk Braid
The half-up mohawk braid is my absolute favorite new hairstyle, especially for people with medium length hair. It’s such a fun extension of the half-up hairstyle trend that has been going on for the past few years. Don’t be completely intimidated and let Missy Sue show you how easy it actually is.
4. Twisted Bangs
Twisted bangs are really something that you can incorporate into any other hairstyle, but they look amazing on medium length bobs.
5. Long Angled Bob
Angled bobs are still going strong after 12+ years, and people keep finding out ways to reinvent this look. A longer angled bob (which ends up being more of a medium length hairstyle) is definitely one of my favorite variations of the traditional A-Line.
6. Braided Half-Updo
Updo’s are a fun way to jazz up your everyday hair. Whether you are going to a wedding, or just going to work, a half-updo with braids incorporated into it makes the perfect medium length hairstyle for any occasion. Here are a few ideas of styles you can try:
*Both Kate from The Small Things Blog and Milabu are fantastic at creating medium length hairstyles that are really easy to do. I totally recommend checking out their other content if you want to see more styles like this.
7. Shoulder-Length Layered Haircut
Adding some layers to a shoulder-length haircut is a traditional, yet efficient way to pump up the volume and body. This medium length hairstyle is ever-popular because it works (and why change it, if it’s not broken?)
8. The Modern Shag
A shag haircut is also a medium length layered haircut, but they tend to have shorter layers with lots of texture.
This video by Free Salon Education shows you how impressive modern shag haircuts really are, and also how to cut one.
9. Half-Up Messy Bun
This hairstyle is often paired with the mohawk braid, but it can also stand on its own. It looks pretty good on any length of hair, but I this it’s perfect for a medium length hairstyle. This is another trend that has been going strong for a few years now.
10. Blunt Cut
I’ve talked about this before, in a post about my favorite celebrity hairstyles, but I just love how simple Dua Lipa’s hair is.
Dua’s hair often changes (as most celebrity hair does), but it seems to always come back to the medium-length blunt cut. Although layers are great for adding movement and texture to a haircut, blunt cuts tend to make fine hair look much thicker.
11. Low Ponytail with Mega Volume
If your hair isn’t that long, it might be hard to make a high ponytail look good. However, there are some cool tricks you can do to make your hair look longer when you wear a low ponytail. Even if you don’t use those tricks, a low ponytail will look better on shorter hair. Adding volume can make any ponytail look amazing. Once again, Kate fromThe Small Things Blog does a killer job at teaching you how to style medium length hairstyles. She might even be the culprit of the medium length trend.
Your Turn: Did you enjoy this post? I’ll love you forever if you share it with your friends on your favorite social media website!
